Though it sounds good in theory, the answer is no. Bed bug prevention isn’t that simple and there is no such thing as a bed bug proof mattress. Just as mattress covers won’t protect you, neither will changing the type of mattress you own.
Though having a foam or water mattress will prevent bed bugs from burrowing into your mattress, it will not stop them from invading your home, or even your bed. Bed bugs will be happy to nest in your sheets or pillows on a foam or water mattress as they would on a traditional mattress.
To put it simply, bed bugs like to reside in hidden spaces. Anywhere in the vicinity of humans is fair game. They’ll linger in or around furniture, carpet or cracks in drywall, then crawl out at night to bite.
The one benefit to having a foam mattress is that it can make spotting bed bugs a little easier. Foam mattresses have less stitching and fewer seams for bed bugs to hide in. However, that will not make it a bed bug proof mattress. Easier spotting of bed bugs is a pretty scant reason to choose a foam mattress over any other type of mattress.
