There’s a common belief that bed bugs are invisible to the naked human eye. This is actually a misconception. Humans are quite capable of spotting bed bugs, and bed bug eggs.
So how big are these unwanted critters?
Full grown bed bugs are about the size of an appleseed – and vary in size from about 1mm to 5mms, depending on what part of their life cycle they are in. Nymph bed bugs (or bed bugs that haven’t fed on blood yet) are on smaller end of this size-range. Also, adult bed bugs that have just fed are larger than those that haven’t recently consumed blood.
Bed bug eggs, on the other hand, are usually about 1mm long, white and sticky. They’re still able to be spotted by the human eye, however. So if you’re worried you have bed bugs, keep your eyes peeled for both adult bed bugs and bed bug eggs.

Where to Spot Bed Bugs

- Check your night table, bed frame and carpet
- Don’t forget to check cracks or crevices near your bed
- Look in the seams of your mattress, pillow cases and linens
